Annual Slam Madness Poetry Slam- March 22-24, 2019


Basic rules are adapted from Poetry Slam, Inc as follows:

  • Each poem must be of the poet's own construction
  • Each poem gets three minutes (plus a ten second grace period) to read or perform one poem. If the poet goes over time .5 points will be deducted for every 10 seconds over
  • The Poet may not use props, costumes or musical instruments
  • Of the scores the poet received from the five judges, the high and the low scores are dropped and the middle three are added together, giving the poet a total of 0-30

Rules specific to slam madness are as follows:
  • Each rotation that takes place between two poets is clean slate with the winner of the rotation advancing and the loser being eliminated
  • The higher seed determines who goes first in each rotation
  • In case of a tie, each poet will draw a random topic from a hat and freestyle a 1 minute poem without time penalty. There is no time penalty. This continues until the tie is broken
  • In order to make the championship bracket, you must be in the final eight of your preliminary bracket. The championship bracket will consist of these 16 poets
  • In the case that the preliminary bracket winner is not present for the Championship Bracket, the poet with the next highest score from the remaining non-qualifying poets will advance to the Championship Bracket
  • Poems from the preliminary brackets CAN be reused during the Championship Bracket
  • Once registration is paid, there will be no refunds unless there is a cancellation of the tournament.
  • Deadline for registration is March 12, 2019
